4) Excluding the data for territory of left bank of the Dniester river and Bendery city. As a whole for the country the number of population as of the beginning of 2006 made up 3,9 mln. persons.
5) As of 1 November 2007.
6) Present population.
Number of economically active population (employed and unemployed) in the Commonwealth countries by the end of 2007 was estimated at 134 million people. The level of economic activities (computed as the ratio of economically active population to total number of population) on average for the Commonwealth countries did not considerably change (as in the previous year-about 50%). At the same time in Armenia, Moldova, Tajikistan this indicator varied from 31% to 38% , in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine – from 44% to 53 %. In 2007 in comparison with 2000 the number of employed on average for the Commonwealth increased by 7%, of which in Azerbaijan - by 8%, Kazakhstan – by 23%, Russia –by 6%, Tajikistan – by 16%, Ukraine – by 4%; in Armenia and Moldova the decrease of the number of employed took place.
The number of foreign citizens attracted for a work to the Commonwealth countries in 2007 made up nearly 2 million persons according to preliminary data of migration offices and other departments. By estimate, actual number of labour migrants (including illegal ones) exceeded in many times official data.
Total number of unemployed determined by the methodology of International Labour Organization, i.e. including the number of seeking job individually (not applying to employment offices), according to the last data of population sample surveys conducted in 2007 made up in Azerbaijan 0,3 million persons (6,6% of the number of economically active population), Kazakhstan – 0,6 (7%), Moldova -0,1 (5,1%), Russia – 4,6 (6,2%), Ukraine – 1,4 (6,2%), Kyrgyzstan (2006) – 0,2 (8,3%), Tajikistan (according to the data of single survey conducted in 2004) – 0,2 million persons (7,4%). For comparison: in Austria, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, USA, Sweden, Japan – 4,6%, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Canada, Romania, Turkey, Finland, France, Czech Republic – 7-11%, Slovakia – 16%, Poland – 18% of economically active population.
Number of unemployed officially registered by employment offices in the majority of the Commonwealth countries is lower by 2-3 times that the total number of unemployed, that mainly was as a result of insufficient interest of unemployed citizens in receiving official status of unemployed (small allowance, arrears of payments, difficulties in registration and striking of the register of unemployed citizens); besides that many categories of citizens (in particular pupils and students, pensioners and other) are not given the status of unemployed.
