In 2014 statistical abstract “Youth in the Commonwealth of Independent States: A Statistical Portrait” has been developed within a joint initiative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS-Stat). This project has been implemented by CIS-Stat in strong cooperation with CIS countries national statistical offices, and international and national experts in different areas of statistics. Key aspects of youth situation have also been summarized and presented in the statistical booklet. These two publications have been widely disseminated to the governments of CIS countries,  CIS executive bodies, and presented at high level international events, including such as the  First Youth Inter-parliamentary Forum of CIS Member States,  Conference of Parliamentarians of Central Asia Countries and other forums.

Taking into consideration wide interest to information on youth situation, CIS-Stat and UNFPA have decided to develop the second edition of Youth Abstract and Booklet.  Similar to the first edition of these publications, their second editions (2016), covers various aspects of young people’s lives in CIS countries: their demographic profile, migration, health, education, the level and quality of life, participation in the labour market and in legislative bodies, and can be considered as an important step towards monitoring of information related to the current situation of youth in the CIS region with regard to the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.

CIS-Stat expresses its gratitude to the National Statistical Offices of CIS member states for active participation in discussions of Youth publications content, sharing of information related to youth situation, and to UNFPA for its financial and experts support.
